Es gab eine ganze Reihe von Menschen, die das Baby Jesus sahen. Findest Du es nicht auch seltsam: Da ist die Stadt Bethlehem. Es ist dort so viel los, daß alle Herbergen ausgebucht sind. In einem einfachen Stall etwas außerhalb bringt eine junge Frau namens Maria ein Baby zur Welt.
Und auf einmal kommen von überall her Menschen, um genau dieses Baby anzubeten. Hast Du je darüber nachgedacht, wie sie wohl auf diesen Gedanken kamen? Was war so besonderes an eben diesem Baby? Wer hat ihnen davon erzählt? Es waren Menschen aus allen Bevölkerungsschichten. Laß sie uns der Reihe nach betrachten: 		There are quite a number of people who saw the baby Jesus. Don't you think it's strange: There is the city of Bethlehem. It is such a busy town that all hotels are fully booked. In a simple stable somewhere outside the town a young woman called Mary gives birth to a baby.
Suddenly from all around people are coming to worship precisely this baby. How did this idea come into the people's minds? Have you ever thought about this? What was there special about this baby? Who told them about the baby's birth? They were people from all different social backgrounds. Let us have a look at them one after the other:

Die Hirten

In dieser Nacht bewachten draußen auf dem Feld einige Hirten ihre Herden. Plötzlich trat ein Engel Gottes zu ihnen, und Gottes Licht umstrahlte sie. Die Hirten erschraken sehr, aber der Engel sagte: "Fürchtet euch nicht! Ich bringe euch die größte Freude für alle Menschen: Heute ist für euch in der Stadt Davids der lang ersehnte Retter zur Welt gekommen. Es ist Christus der Herr. Und daran werdet ihr ihn erkennen: Das Kind liegt in Windeln gewickelt in einer Futterkrippe!
Auf einmal waren sie von unzähligen Engeln umgeben, die Gott lobten: "Ehre sei Gott in der Höhe und Friede auf Erden und den Menschen ein Wohlgefallen."
Nachdem die Engel sie verlassen hatten, beschlossen die Hirten: "Kommt, wir gehen nach Bethlehem. Wir wollen sehen, was dort geschehen ist und wovon Gottes Engel gesprochen hat."
Sie machten sich sofort auf den Weg und fanden Maria und Joseph und das Kind, das in der Futterkrippe lag. Als sie das Kind sahen, erzählten die Hirten, was ihnen der Engel gesagt hatte. Und alle, die ihren Bericht hörten, waren darüber sehr erstaunt. Maria aber merkte sich jedes Wort und dachte immer wieder darüber nach.
Dann kehrten die Hirten zu ihren Herden zurück. Sie lobten und dankten Gott für das, was sie in dieser Nacht erlebt hatten. Alles war genau so, wie der Engel es ihnen gesagt hatte. (Lukas 2, Verse 8 - 20)

The Shepherds

Now in this same district there were shepherds out in the fields, keeping watch through the night over their flock, when suddenly there stood before them an angel of the Lord, and the splendour of the Lord shone round them. They were terror-struck, but the angel said: "Do not be afraid; I have good news for you: there is great joy coming to the whole people. Today in the city of David a deliverer has been born to you - the Messiah, the Lord. And this is your sign: you will find a baby lying all wrapped up, in a manger." All at once there was with the angel a great company of the heavenly host, singing the praises of God:
"Glory to God in highest heaven, and on earth his peace for men on whom his favour rests."
After the angel had left them and gone into heaven the shepherds said to one another, "Come, we must go straight to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us." So they went with all speed and found their way to Mary and Joseph; and the baby was lying in the manger. When they saw him, the recounted what they had been told about this child; and all who heard were astonished at what the shepherds said. But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered over them. Meanwhile the shepherds returned glorifying and praising God for what they had heard and seen; it had all happened as they had been told. . (Luke 2, Verses 8 - 20)
